Sekolah Temujalar is Gudskul’s collective studies program, which was replicated at the Museum Fridericianum in Kassel, Germany during Documenta Fifteen. Six collectives from the Asia-Pacific took part in this fifth iteration and members of Pari were invited to co-facilitate.

As participants and facilitators, we slept, cooked, ate, sang, cleaned and conversed in the Fridericanium for 50 days. A room of the museum was turned into a dormitory and a makeshift kitchen, Gudkitchen, was built in the carpark. Through the shared living arrangements, we were able to test and put into practice our ideas around collectivity.

At the core of Sekolah Temujalar was the nongkrong curriculum (‘nongkrong’ meaning ‘hanging out’ in Indonesian), organised around the three concepts of: make friends, learn from each other, and self-organise. The program has led to ongoing and ever-growing friendships, networks and collaborations.

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body.
